Product Description
Amazon.com Review Washing and drying leafy vegetables has never been simpler or more fun than with this gadget. One hand is all you need to press the soft, cushioned knob to start the spinning; when the built-in brake is applied and the job is done, the basket and bowl can be taken apart and used separately. The knob locks down for easy storage, and the spinner is dishwasher-safe. Use this tool with lettuce, raw spinach, broad-leafed herbs, and greens--they end up clean and oh-so-dry, and the drier your leaves, the better salad dressings will adhere and the less mushy your sandwich bread will become. Puddles at the bottom of your salad bowl disappear... Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. --Laurie Notaro

Salad spinners unite :), October 8, 2000
If you want to get a bit fancy with your salad spinning, this is the one to buy. Not only can you spin the lettuce and remove all the water, you can use the bowl to serve a salad or store lettuce in the inner bowl. It is so easy to use. You release the lock mechanism at the top and press down. The inner basket starts to spin, removing most of the water from the lettuce. I love the fact that you can rinse the lettuce in the removable inner basket. You really win with this one. Wash, spin, store...so much less to wash and it is never boring. It is quite large so you do need a big space to store it in the refrigerator, unless you have a big refrigerator, then it is no problem. If you have memories of trying to swing lettuce around in a kitchen towel, or have tried to use paper towels while they are falling apart all over the lettuce, you must try spinning in this great salad spinner. Once you have spun the lettuce you can remove the inner bowl and dump out the water.

No more excuses to buy pre-washed salad greens, August 10, 2001
I've avoided making salads for a long time because of the preparation time. I had an older salad spinner, but it was the kind you had to turn, and cleaning it afterwards always seemed to take a long time. This spinner is a huge improvement over any I've used before. You put the rinsed greens in the strainer, or rinse them after they're in, and then put the strainer in the bowl. One easy push and it spins on its own and it does not move around at all on the counter. I have found that it takes a couple spins to dry them the way I like, but while the greens are spinning, you can be chopping up other salad ingredients. Even better, you can lock the handle in the "down" position and use this spinner to store the unused greens in the fridge; no separate "lettuce saver" is needed. I've had leaf lettuce in mine for several days, and it is still crisp and fresh. Since buying this remarkable spinner, I've had salad every night. And enjoyed every minute of it, preparation included! If you love salads but hate the prep, get this. You will wonder how you ever got along without it.

Great item, June 9, 2005
This takes minimal effort to use, and then can double as a salad bowl with lid. THe large can be annoying to store because it is so big, but there is the smaller size available to remedy this.

Works perfectly; fun toy!, June 9, 2005
I love this spinner. Cooks Illustrated, which essentially serves the function of Consumer Reports for anyone serious about cooking, loves it too in their rating of a number of different spinners.
Never any problems using or cleaning it in the months we've owned it. I've put the bowl and colander through the dishwasher with no problems, but I wouldn't put the top piece through, even though OXO says you can. A quick rinse in the sink is plenty to keep it clean, though.
It requires hardly any strength to use -- just push down the knob and it gets going fast. Use the brake button if you just can't wait for the dang thing to slow down, or (if you're like me) just for your own personal entertainment. It's a toy with buttons; they are meant to be played with!
I notice a few reviewers complained that this spinner broke -- OXO has a great lifetime warranty and will replace anything that breaks as a result of normal use. So if yours is defective for any reason, there's no reason for you to be out any money.

Just okay..., May 29, 2005
I'm still looking for the perfect salad spinner. I had this one and broke it after trying to take the lid apart to try to clean under the lid--don't attempt that! I didn't like how this one had a domed lid so you couldn't stack stuff on top of it. I also found that the interior of the basket wasnt smooth but a bumpy basket weave so little bits of lettuce get stuck in it.

Worked great until it broke, May 14, 2005
This was a wonderful salad spinner for the several months it worked. Then it broke. In my kitchen, very few things break. The occasional wooden spatula after fifteen years of use is fine but things tend not to break unless I drop them. This is my second Oxo product that broke while I was using it (the other one was a knife--yes, a knife snapped in two while I was cutting). I still love my Oxo peeler but with two out of three of my Oxo products breaking, I'm done with Oxo for the most part.
