Product Description
Amazon.com Product Description
Amazon.com gift certificates can be used to purchase almost anything in our store, including most items sold by Marketplace sellers and Amazon Merchants (except The Bombay Company, Circuit City, Eddie Bauer, Newport News, Nordstrom, Spiegel, and Ultimate Outlet Brands). For more information, see the Fine Print [below / above]. Sending E-mail Gift Certificates: When sending e-mail gift certificates, please be aware that some e-mail programs may block or even delete e-mail messages which originate from an address not specified by the recipient as an accepted address. All Amazon.com e-mail gift certificates are sent from gc-orders If you are concerned that your recipient may have e-mail filters turned on, you may want to send or reissue the gift certificate to your own e-mail address and then forward it to them or print it out to give to them. Redeeming Gift Certificates: When you enter the certificate's claim code for the first time, the certificate is automatically redeemed onto your account, and this information is logged into our database, even if you don't place an order at that time. After you have entered the claim code once, you do not need to enter it again--even if you back up and change other information in the course of placing your order. If you receive an error message that the gift certificate has been redeemed, and the funds are not being applied to your order, it could be that you have more than one Amazon.com account, and that the funds are redeemed to one of your other accounts. Questions about purchasing or using a gift certificate can be sent through our Contact Us form online.

Great gift, easily delivered, and fun to receive, December 14, 2004
Reviewer:C. Coffman (Sydney, Australia) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I live in Australia, and several years ago I got fed up with standing in the long Christmas lines at the Post Office, paying almost as much for postage as I had spent on the gift themselves, and then hoping that miraculously I had tracked the growing size of various children, the interests and preferences of others, and that all this effort might result in an enjoyable gift. Too exhausting, too expensive, and probbly not enough happy recipients of gifts from Australia! You can't expect to get it right every year . . .

For three years now I have been sending Amazon.com gift certificates with electronic cards via email to my nephews and nieces, godsons, and to other adult family and friends. Now everyone tells me that they are happy. And for the kids, going over the Internet with their parents onto Amazon.com and choosing their own gifts is fun in itself . . .

I read the review by the person who didn't know that his intended recipient hadn't received his gift and he or she wasn't advised by Amazon.com that it hadn't been picked up.

It's true that Amazon.com doesn't advise you when the gift isn't picked up, but when you send a gift certificate by email Amazon.com does advise you by email when the email with your gift certificate is sent, and then Amazon.com advises you again by email when your intended recipient has picked up the gift certificate. So you have to keep track of it, but I have found that Amazon.com provides enough feedback along the way so that you know everything has gone well. (And of course sometimes you even get thank you emails and/or telephone calls . . .)

One thing I will say is that if you go in from the gift certificate prompt, Amazon.com only allows you (as far as I can tell) to choose a very limited selection of e-cards. I prefer to start by going into the e-card hotlink and then clicking 'yes' that I want to send the e-card with a gift certificate. That way you have access to the very wide range of Amazon.com e-cards, which offer plenty of room for a personalised message and generally cool background music to accompany the card.

The total package of e-card, personalised message, music, and an electronic gift certificate arriving by email has proven to be the right gift for all my family and friends. I have no qualms about giving the Amazon.com service for sending emails with an e-card and a gift certificate five stars.

Never Had a Problem..., December 16, 2004
Reviewer:Philip Susemihl "philaphil5555" (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania United States) - See all my reviews

...so I'm knocking on wood.

I've sent Amazon Gift Certs electronically and by mail for several years and have never had a problem with lost certs or failure to deliver to the recipients e-mail address.

I've always considered them to be wonderful holiday or birthday alternative to trying to buy the right thing and then packaging the item and hauling it to the post office where it proceeds to get the living stuff kicked out of it enroute.

My daughter has told me how much fun she and my seven-year-old granddaughter have picking out her present(s) on Amazon.

I know this sounds like I work for Amazon, but I don't. I was surprised to see so many negative comments regarding the quality of service, appearance of the certs, etc.

Well, if the one I just ordered for e-mail delivery doesn't get there, I'll have to make like Ahnuld and "be back" with a negative review.

your "fine print", March 17, 2005
Reviewer:Carol H. Wilson - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having often paid as much or more than the cost of the gifts to mail Christmas gifts to my son and his family in Denmark, I was delighted to see that I could send Amazon Gift Certificates overseas. I sent him a couple of certificates feeling that at long last I could give gifts like other mothers.
He received the certificates and proceeded to spend considerable time making a list of things they could use. Everything was fine until he went to submit the order. At that point he discovered not much of what he wanted was available to residents of European countries. He told me that if I had read your "fine print" I would have known this. My question is why would one have to read the fine print? I would think there would be a warning in LARGE PRINT where ordering gift certificates going overseas is described, saying that you might as well go to the nearest beach, float the money in the ocean, and hope the tides take it to Europe.

SLOW, March 15, 2005
Reviewer:Gizmo "Blitzkrieg" (River Falls, WI USA) - See all my reviews
I purchased an e-card from Amazon.com to be sent to my e-mail address so I could purchase a book for my friend ASAP. Seeings how it simply needed to be e-mailed, not shipped, I was very disappointed when I found my card hadn't been sent the next day. Not only that, It still wasn't there three days later. Also, I was never sent an e-mail confirming my order. Since I hadn't recieved my e-card and I needed it ASAP I wanted to cancel the purchase and purchase a different one at Barnes & Noble. Stupid thing is... I can't even cancel it. Now I'm stuck waiting for an e-card and they don't even give me an estimated time of arrival. I have no idea when to expect it. If you want a gift card, it's a good idea but don't expect it anytime soon. If you find an item LOW IN STOCK I suggest finding another payment method. However, if you have the time to wait there shouldn't be a problem.

gift certificates, March 10, 2005
Reviewer:K McGee - See all my reviews
I would never purchase another gift certificate. One was purchased for an employee at my work with the intention she could use it for travel. Wrong!! Your fine print is very misleading. It should clearly state that it cannot be used for the purchase of travel. Very dissatisfied customer. Also, impossible to find a phone number to contact an actual human at Amazon.

Amazon is everything that an on-line store should be!, March 9, 2005
Reviewer:J. C. Frank (Silver Spring, MD USA) - See all my reviews

Therefore, the Amazon.com gift certificate is everything a gift should be.

For the buyer, on-line shopping is almost perfect at Amazon. You can find almost everything you can imagine wanting t buy. You can find advice and opinions about almost everything. You can get fast and free shipping. You can get used items at a deep discount. You can shop at new stores as they join the Amazon team. You never have to look for a parking spot. You can trust that your credit information is safe and that Amazon sellers will be held to high standards.

For the person receiving the Amazon gift certificate, it is like having a new hunting license during deer season. It's like getting 3 wishes from the Genie in the bottle, like hitting the "pick 4" on your lunch break, like winning the office football pool, like knowing the glass slipper fits, like realizing that the beans are magic, like finding out that you will be doing the IRS refund dance after all, like being able to choose - from an almost infinite number of choices - whatever you always wanted for your special occasion.

This is CLEARLY a win-win. I love to give and receive the Amazon Gift Certificates, and I think you will, too!
